Embedded Element Pattern Beam Model for Murchison Widefield Array

Daniel Ung's entry was selected as the winner of the 2016 FEKO Student Competition.

A precursor to the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) radio telescope was constructed in the Murchison Radio-Astronomy Observatory in Western Australia.

In Daniel's winning entry for the 2016 competition, FEKO was utilized to produce a beam model of the Murchison Widefield Array radio telescope. The method involved the use of embedded element pattern simulation with spherical harmonics representation. The results were verified by performing an observation using the Murchison Widefield Array. Currently the beam model has been implemented for astronomers to perform calibration and image correction of their observations.

In this one-hour webinar Daniel presented his report detailing how he made use of FEKO, Altair's electromagnetic simulation tool.
