At this year’s formnext – November 14. - 17. 2017 – Altair and APWORKS will jointly present new software, processes, and material for additive manufacturing.
Altair presents its software solutions HyperWorks and solidThinking Inspire®. Inspire now includes features that enable a closed digital process chain for additive manufacturing. Inspire Unlimited - Altair's platform for product development in the cloud, soon to be available in Europe, is another highlight at Altair's formnext 2017 booth.
APWORKS will present the Light Rider, the world's first 3D printed motorcycle prototype, as well as Scalmalloy®, APWORKS’ patented aluminum alloy. As the first material worldwide specifically developed for 3D printing, Scalmalloy® combines the ductility of titanium with the weight of aluminum and invite the visitors to learn more about the company‘s understanding of "design for additive manufacturing".
The absolute highlight of this year’s booth is the presentation of the 3i-PRINT project, a 3D printed,complex front end structure of a VW CADDY Youngtimer. The project illustrates the potential and added value of industrial metal 3D-printing for the automotive industry, by including a high degree of functional integration and organic load bearing structures, optimized for crash performance.

The "Making-of 3i-PRINT" workshop on November 15th at 10:00 - jointly presented by csi entwicklungstechnik, APWORKS, and Altair, will show how to leverage the potential of modern manufacturing methods with the application of new development tools as well as an efficient collaboration with development partners.
In a myth busting session – the ultimate design freedom will be discussed in the context of manufacturing reality with the 3i-PRINT project as the leading example. The attendees will get a comprehensive overview of additive manufacturing design rules and guidelines. A focus point will be the simulation driven design methodology, which shaped the structure of the 3i-PRINT front end, using real world load cases.
