Presenter: Dan Roy, Mechanical Engineer [email protected]

High strain-rate tensile properties are needed for creating material parameters for crash simulation software, such as LS-DYNA, PAM-CRASH and RADIOSS. In this webinar, we describe the process of measuring these material properties and then using the Matereality software for materials to create material cards for LS-DYNA. We then perform a falling dart impact test, which produces a complex, multi-axial stress state, and we simulate this experiment using LS-DYNA. We are then able to compare simulation to actual experiment, thus obtaining a measure of the fidelity of the simulation to reality. Such a process brings confidence to the material model before it is used in a large-scale crash simulation.

Webinar outline:

  • Measuring high strain-rate tensile properties
  • Creating material cards using Matereality's CAE Modeler software
  • Setting up an impact experiment
  • Validatng the material model by comparing simulation and experiment

Who should attend? Users in the automotive industry who are involved in R&D, material specification or quality testing.

About Matereality:

Matereality offers the building tools and engineer-focused software to allow workgroups to collect, share, and use any material data in full interactive detail, using a patented technology to store any properties of any material on a single platform.

Matereality Workgroup Material DatabasePro is hosted in the cloud at the Global Data Center. Build and maintain a fully scalable database, and empower team members with data ownership while still achieving consolidation. Data is always globally available precisely when you need it. All databases offer full access control - keep your data private, or share it selectively with your collaborators.

How is Matereality useful to APA users? For internal collaboration within the enterprise, Matereality’s Workgroup Material DatabasePro software creates a central, private core containing material data in full interactive detail that is always available to group members, whether collocated or dispersed. All members share the same toolsets for advanced plotting accompanied by analytics to instantly compare and visualize data trends; converting units, zooming views, and interrogating curves; and exporting data to Excel, as well as in formats suited for diverse applications, including CAE.

The Matereality Workgroup Material DatabasePro solution enabled through the Altair Partner Alliance allows Altair HyperWorks users access to browser-based software to build and maintain productivity enhancing material databases on the same platform that they use for product design. The integration of materials data with CAE tools strengthens the material core of their group’s PLM.
